READ ME File For 'Alderney Race TELEMAC2D numerical model input files' Dataset DOI: https://doi.org/10.5258/SOTON/D1240 ReadMe Author: Luke BLUNDEN, University of Southampton https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0046-5508 This dataset supports the publication: AUTHORS: Luke S. Blunden; Stephen G. Haynes; AbuBakr S. Bahaj TITLE: Tidal current power effects on nearby sandbanks: a case study in the Race of Alderney JOURNAL: Philosophical Transactions A PAPER DOI IF KNOWN: https://doi.org/10.1098/rsta.2019.0503 This dataset contains: files to regenerate the numerical modelling results from the article above, specifically: - TELEMAC case (configuration) files. Filename: cas{array-number}.txt) where {array-number} is 1-17, corresponding to T-blocks T35, T36, T47, T48, T49, T60, T61, T62, T63, T74, T75, T76, T85, T86, T87, T93, T94 respectively. The base case (no array) is cas_bline.txt. - TELEMAC boundary conditions files (cli.txt) - SISYPHE case files (sis_cas{array-number}.txt) - TELEMAC fortran files (princi_{array-number}.f), to impose time varying boundary conditions and tidal energy extraction. Note the array (and mesh below) coordinates are in sphere-based Mercator projection with a false origin of 48degN, 0degE and a radius of 6371 km - TELEMAC mesh file (geo_no_bathy.slf). Note bathymetric data has been removed from the mesh due to licence restrictions. Similar data are now freely available through https://www.emodnet.eu/bathymetry. The mesh has a variable DIFF which has zero elevation everywhere, apart from over the footprint of the South Banks, where its value is the difference (in m) between the rigid bed and the erodible bed. PREREQUISITES ============= - TELEMAC V6P1 installation (higher versions may work but have not been tested) - freely available at http://svn.opentelemac.org/svn/opentelemac/tags/v6p1 upon free registration at http://opentelemac.com - Fortran compiler installed i.e. freely available gfortran https://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/GFortran - Python 2.7 - Parallelization not required but if not using comment out ('/') PARALLEL PROCESSORS keyword in steering file. If parallelization to be used, need to link against Metis and MPICH2 libraries. See http://opentelemac.com for details. - BlueKenue(TM) to generate a model mesh and to view results files https://nrc.canada.ca/en/research-development/products-services/software-applications/blue-kenuetm-software-tool-hydraulic-modellers FIXED BED ========= - N.B. absolute file paths may need to be modified in steering files - Results file size generated will be ~1.5 GB per case - The 17 cases described in the article are run using steering files cas1.txt -> cas17.txt and fortran files princi1.f -> princi17.f (The T-block number is included in the fortran file stored in variable "FirstArray" and they are numbered W-E, N-S) COUPLED SEDIMENT TRANSPORT ========================== - The baseline, T86 and T74 cases are included. - Absolute file paths may need to be modified in steering files - Results files up to 20GB per case.
