READ ME File For 'Supporting Data: Mechanical Properties of Primary Feathers' Dataset DOI: https://doi.org/10.5258/SOTON/D1452 ReadMe Author: Christian M Laurent, University of Southampton ORCID: 0000-0002-2946-9705 Scopus ID: 56622270700 This dataset supports the thesis: Mechanical Properties of Primary Feathers by Christian M Laurent. This dataset supports the publication: AUTHORS: Laurent, Christian, Dyke, John, Cook, Richard, Dyke, Gareth and De Kat, Roeland TITLE: Spectroscopy on the wing: investigating possible diļ¬€erences in protein secondary structures in feather shafts of birds using Raman spectroscopy JOURNAL: Journal of Structural Biology DOI: 10.1016/j.jsb.2020.107529 This dataset contains 3 parts: 1. Data supporting Chapter 4 of the thesis, which presents data on pseudo-elliptical holes within the feather cortex, measured using the BoneJ plugin for FIJI. Method statements can be found in Chapter 3 of the thesis. 2. Data supporting Chapter 5 of the thesis, which presents results on Raman spectra of the feather cortex. Method statements can be found in Chapter 3 of the thesis or in the paper listed above. 3. Data supporting Chapters 6 and 7 of the thesis, which present results from tension test, and an interpretation using classical laminate mechanics. Method statements can be found in Chapter 3 of the thesis. Date of data collection: October 2015 - October 2019 Information about geographic location of data collection: Some data (CT) is archived at the Muvis Centre for X-ray Imaging, and the author also has a copy. If possible please contact the author before contacting Muvis, because archives are spread across many disks. The contact information on ORCID should be up-to-date, alternatively, contact information should be available on www.christianlaurent.me Licence: CC BY-NC-ND -- please contact Christian Laurent for additional permissions.
