International recent developments: China
This Article provides an overview of the significant decisions of the Chinese courts, in particular, the Supreme People’s Court of China (SPC) and the decisions from the High Court of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China in 2018. It provides readers with an insight to China’s and Hong Kong’s judicial practice in maritime law over this period. The judgments that are covered relate to charterparty, bill of lading, freight forwarding, marine insurance, and ship collision. The source of those Chinese judgments is the official database of Chinese Judgements Online.1 In
2018, Chinese courts have delivered and published 7928 maritime judgments in the database, and seventy-nine are from the SPC.
