RS/JMC Report on teaching and learning geometry 11-19: Overview and discussion
This session provides an overview, and an opportunity to discuss, the key findings of the Working Group of the Royal Society and the Joint Mathematical Council set up to consider the teaching of geometry in schools and colleges. The Working Group findings cover the nature and purpose of geometry in the curriculum, the aims for teaching geometry, and the development of pedagogy that encompasses the teaching of spatial thinking, geometrical visualisation and geometrical reasoning. Successfully implementation of the findings requires action and co-operation across a range of arenas including schools, universities, government, and professional, commercial and research organisations.
