Jochem and Andrew J. Tatem. "Tools for mapping multi-scale settlement patterns of building footprints: An introduction to the R package foot." PLOS ONE. Description: The archive contains the results of the case study analysing the morphological patterns of building footprints covering Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales). The input data for the analyses were 2D polygon representations of structures released by Ordnance Survey's OS OpemMap Local for 2018 (Contains Ordnance Survey data © Crown copyright and database right 2018) from the source: https://osdatahub.os.uk/downloads/open/OpenMapLocal. The building polygons were processed using the R software package 'foot' (https://github.com/wpgp/foot) to produce individual layers descrbing morphological characteristics (e.g. area, perimeter). The morphology layers were then grouped using an unsupervised classification algorithm (Gaussian mixture modelling) to produce a 6-class settlement typology layer. The resulting, classfied settlement layer is included as well as two sets of outputs from the morphology calculations -- one with and one without a 250 m focal radius. Format: All datasets are released as single-band GeoTiff layers (a gridded geospatial format). The morphology metrics are 32-bit floating point rasters. The settlement classification layer is an 8-bit integer raster.
