Structural analysis of composite laminates by NURBS-based isogeometric multipatch discontinuous Galerkin approach
In this paper, a static structural analysis of laminated composites is performed by Non-uniform rational B-splines (NURBS) based isogeometric analysis (IGA). As a concept of isogeometric analysis, NURBS are utilized as basis functions for both design and computational processes in isogeometric analysis. In the mathematical model, each layer of the composite structure is modeled as a single NURBS patch which means that the whole structure constitutes of non-overlapping multipatches, with each layer has different material and physical properties. Because of multiple patches can not ensure the continuity conditions between the layers inherently, a discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method based on symmetric interior penalty formulation is applied to overcome this issue. Numerical calculations are carried out for stacking sequence "0" ^"0" "/" 〖"90" 〗^"0" and resulting stresses are calculated through the thickness of the composite laminate under a sinusoidal load. The calculated results are comparatively presented together with analytic solutions. It is concluded that DG-IGA based method displays better approximation in comparison with the standart IGA.
