READ ME File For 'Understanding the size limits of silica pore formation by in situ grazing incidence small angle X-ray scattering' Dataset DOI: 10.5258/SOTON/D1967 ReadMe Author: Gilles E. Moehl, University of Southampton [https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4910-3601] This dataset supports the thesis: AUTHORS: Gilles Ernest Heinrich Karl Moehl, Li Shao, Samuel David Scott Fitch, Jonathan Rawle, Andrw Hector TITLE: Understanding the size limits of silica pore formation by in situ grazing incidence small angle X-ray scattering The data consists of small angle scattering data (raw and processed) recorded at Diamond Light Source I07. Processed data includes a number of 1D projections (horizontal, radial) of the data as well as the peaks followed in the horizontal scattering profiles. Experiment no: si20593-1 A Dectris Pilatus 2M was used to record the raw data in 100 ms intervals followed by 20 ms readout time. Each measurement run consisted of 700 frames, leading to 700x0.12 s=84 s. electrochemistry was driven by the application of -2 V vs Ag/AgCl for the duration of 60 s. Electrochemistry and scattering data aquisition were started simultaneously for each measurement. TEOS: tetraethyl orthosilicate CTAB: hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide OTAB: octadecyltrimethylammonium bromide Basic solution composition: 20 ml of 0.1 M NaNO3 in H2O added to 20 ml of EtOH; adjusted to pH=3 using 0.2 M HCl; +480 mg of CTAB/OTAB; + 905 uL of TEOS;+ X amount of mesitylene (as described below). The raw data for 8 measurement runs are included as follows: Sample2A1: CTAB, no mesitylene Sample1A2: CTAB, [mesitylene]/[CTAB]=0.1 Sample2A3: CTAB, [mesitylene]/[CTAB]=0.5 Sample1A4: CTAB, [mesitylene]/[CTAB]=1.0 Sample1B1: OTAB, no mesitylene Sample1B2: OTAB, [mesitylene]/[OTAB]=0.5 Sample1B3: OTAB, [mesitylene]/[OTAB]=1.0 Sample1B4: OTAB, [mesitylene]/[OTAB]=2.0 Corresponding chronoamperometry data can be found in the folder "I07silicaEC". Relevant SEM data can be found in dataset: https://doi.org/10.5258/SOTON/D1966 The folder "controlexperiments" contains scattering data recorded in-house on a Rigaku Smartlab Diffractometer. Analysis and further context of this data can be found in the thesis: "Electrochemical Dynamics Investigated by Small Angle Scattering", by Gilles E. MOEHL.
