The Roman Ports Project
The Roman Ports Project
Fieldwork at Portus in the course of 2018 and early 2019 was undertaken by the Portus Project and Portus Fieldschool, and in the context of the PortusLimen Project. The former (www.portusproject.org) is an initiative directed by Simon Keay that aims to understand better the development of the port and its broader relationship to the Mediterranean. Its ongoing work involves continued close collaboration between the British School at Rome, the University of Southampton and the Parco Archeologico di Ostia Antica, and the Parsifal Cooperativa di Archeologia (Roma). The PortusLimen project, also directed by Simon Keay, was an ERC Advanced Grant funded project, with a broader focus on Roman Mediterranean ports of the early Imperial period.
