This protocol replaces a previous Cochrane Protocol entitled 'Interventions for mood and anxiety disorders, and self harm in young offenders' first published in 2008 by some of the current author team (Townsend 2008), and subsequently withdrawn in 2018 (Townsend 2018). The 2008 protocol was supported by the Forensic Mental Health R&D Programme. The authors would like to thank the original authors of the 2008 protocol Keith Hawton, Sally Sargeant, Jubulani Sithole and Olivia Stocker for their intellectual input which has informed this publication (Townsend 2008).
