Loyal Servant of Absolutism? The Image of Baron Geza Fejervary during the Hungarian Constitutional Crisis
Loyal Servant of Absolutism? The Image of Baron Geza Fejervary during the Hungarian Constitutional Crisis
This chapter in a Festschrift for Professor Elena Mannova revisits the Hungarian constitutional crisis of 1905-6, exploring the concepts of loyalty and disloyalty through the image and behaviour of the Prime Minister Baron Geza Fejervary. A particular strength of the chapter is its analysis of satirical cartoons, arguing that although these predominated in the public domain in Hungary they belied the actual balanced behaviour Fejervary in trying to resolve the crisis.
