Optimising international links and exchanges between departments of photography, film and video production
Optimising international links and exchanges between departments of photography, film and video production
Aspects of international links and exchange programmes specific to the delivery of education for photography, film and video production are examined with the view to optimising their use to prepare graduates for employment opportunities in Europe.
A comprehensive examination is made of the subject of photography, film and video production as currently practised and the provision for its education across Europe.
The research also includes historical aspects of the development of education for this specialist area, primarily concerning England but with reference to other countries in Europe.
Case studies are used to test a number of hypotheses and to assist in an analysis of aspects of link programmes. Variable factors are identified in order to optimise this form of interchange. These include the matching of course philosophies, academic level of partners, funding arrangements and the assessment of work and credit transfer.
Conclusions include recommendations for the establishment and management of future programmes.
Classification and analysis of data includes reference to published material, where available, concerning both international links in general and also specifically to the development of photographic education. However, since so little has been written on this topic almost all the information collected and conclusions reached are based on original research.
The results of two European surveys have been independently published, first in the form of a Directory of Photographic Education and the second as a computer database, released under the working title 'Photonet'.
