Heron, Kenneth Harry (1978) Boundary-layer-induced cabin noise. University of Southampton, Doctoral Thesis.
Abstract
Formulae have been developed that allow an exciting arbitrary fluctuating pressure field to be incorporated into the statistical energy method, assuming that the cross-spectral density function of the field is known. These integral formulae have been reduced to the algebraic level for the particular case of a turbulent boundary-layer as the exciting force. Based on these algebraic formulae a prediction formula for boundary-layer induced cabin noise has been derived. Comparison with measured results show that the theory has not adequately taken account of the aircraft trim, but otherwise appears to be reasonable. A parameter study using the prediction formula is presented and shows interesting relationships between the factors involved in the prediction.
