Some stochastic models for prediction and control in catastrophe theory

Some stochastic models for prediction and control in catastrophe theory
Some stochastic models for prediction and control in catastrophe theory

When a model from Catastrophe Theory has been built for a particular phenomenon stochastic perturbations should, in some cases, be taken into account, because sudden jumps may occur for values of the external parameters other than those in the catastrophe set of just because of the noise in the dynamics of the external parameters. This is the subject of chapters two and three. In some cases where a model has been built for a certain phenomenon it may occur that the singularities of the functions arising from that model are some of the elementary catastrophes. In such a case new insight may be gained by considerations of catastrophe theory. This is illustrated in chapter four. An account of the theory is given in chapter one and finally some possible applications for operational Research models are suggested in chapter five.
