Photoelectrochemical studies of oxide films on metals
Photoelectrochemical studies of oxide films on metals
This thesis reports a study of the growth and properties of anodicoxide films on Bi, Ta, Nb, Cu and Ni. The formation of the oxides has been examined using cyclic voltammetry with simultaneous impedance measurements. The results have been analysed to give information about the kinetics of film growth and the dielectric properties of the oxides. Photocurrent spectroscopy has been used to follow the formation of photosensitive surface oxides, and a detailed analysis of the photocurrent data has provided values of film thickness, band-gap, optical constants and flat-band potential. In addition bulk excitation and internal photoemission processes have been resolved in the case of the oxide film on bismuth.
