Semi-leptonic decays on the lattice

Semi-leptonic decays on the lattice
Semi-leptonic decays on the lattice

We study the semi-leptonic decays of charmed D mesons to final state psuedo-scalar and vector mesons. The form-factors f+ (0) and fo(0) are extracted for the pseudo-scalar case and are shown to be well described by a pole dominance form. The results obtained are in agreement with experiment. Flavour symmetry breaking effects (SU(3)f) are shown to be negligible for this decay. The form-factors for the vector case V(0), A1(0),A2(0) and A(0) are also extracted and are in excellent agreement with experiment. In this case SUf(3) effects are larger but still only the same order of magnitude as the statistical errors of the calculation. In both cases the Zweig allowed contributions are calculated for the I = I3 = 0 members of the SUf(3) octet. Decay rates are calculated for all the decays. An exploratory study, of the use of the Eichten method for treating heavy quarks in lattice QCD, in semi-leptonic B decays is presented. Decays to charmed and charmless, pseudo-scalar and vector mesons are studied. Signals for the decays are shown to exist but greater statistics and an extrapolation to the chiral limit are required. All the above computations are carried out on a 20 x 10 x 40 lattice at β= 6.0 using Wilson fermions in the quenched approximation.
