New micropalaeontological data and stratigraphical investigation of the Triassic rocks of the Central Taurus Mountains - Turkey
Petrographical study of the Triassic rocks from eight measured outcrops has determined the framework grains, their type and size, as well as composition and texture. The marine limestones which dominate the succession have been petrographically classified into several basic types, after Folk (1962) and Dunham (1962). For petrographic and palaeontologic interpretation, a total of 432 samples were collected from the eight localities and 850 thin sections were prepared. Of these samples, 20 were shales; they were processed for microfauna but were found to be barren. As far as the palaeontological study of the rocks is concerned, conodonts, foraminifers and holothurian sclerites have been identified, but particular attention has been given to the conodonts. 56 large limestone samples were processed for conodonts; of which 14 were barren. From a total of 84.435 kg. of rock, 3575 conodont specimens were recovered. 2177 specimens were identifiable; they are attributed to 15 existing genera, 50 species and 3 sub-species. In addition, 3 new species of existing genera have been recognized, as well as a new monotypic genus. The conodont faunas are restricted to biomicxites, although not all biomicrites contain conodonts. The 16 identifiable genera of conodonts are: Number of specimens & Number of species, of these species, Cratognathodus Mosher 2 139 Cypridadella Mosher 4 22 Didymodella Mosher 1 10 Diplododella Ulrich & Bassler 1 sp.indet. 8 Ellisonia Miller 2 5 Enantiognathus Mosher & Clark 2 17 Epigondolella Mosher 14 683 Gladigondolella Miller 3 212 Neocavitella Sudar & Budurov 1 1 Neogondolella Bender & Stoppel 16 522 Neohindeodella Kozur 2 25 Parachirognathus Clark 2 5 Prioniodella Ulrich & Bassler 3 35 Prioniodina Ulrich & Bassler 2 174 Xaniognathus Sweet 15A new monotypic genus sp.indet.
