The thirteen extant 16th and 17th century manuscripts of these letters are all dependent, directly or indirectly, upon a 12/13th century codex, Ottobonianus 448. An edition produced in 1618 A.D. by Antonio Salmatia of Milan was based on a manu The text presented here is based on Ottobonianus 448 (letter `A'), except where it is obviously incorrect. The Latin versions of Salmatia (in his edition), reprinted by Aubert and Migne, and of Andreas Schott (in an unpublished manuscript in In the translation Cyril's grandiloquent manner has been copied. Quotations from Scripture follow no one English version and are sometimes purposely archaic. The Latin versions of Salmatia and Schott have been consulted throughout, although the
