Chryssafis, Gerassimos (1977) A commentary on Theocritus, Idyll XXV. University of Southampton, Doctoral Thesis.
Abstract
This is a word-by-word commentary on Theocritus Idyll XXV,with particular attention to allusions to Homer and to resemblences with other Hellenistic texts in metre, diction and style. EWords, expressions and motifs borrowed from( or similar to ) cgenres other than epic are commented upon, and the innovations 1 are in some cases traced in the epigrammatists , late epic poets and St. Gregory 1:azianzen.The text which results is in some lines different from Gow's, and sometimes neL;lected variants are defended for the first time (see esp.. _ote~::cn 11. 27 , 46, 65,79, 82,'11:4, 135, 155, 200, 252,~ 264 ). Proposals which are only tentative are to be found in 11. 6, 76, 183, 270.Wherever a new interpretation of words or expressions is given the arguments are intended to be as concise as possible( see esp. 11. 10,16,20,21,31,48,72,73,208,248,250,279).
