'Varios enigmas de los dislates mundanos' (Southampton University Library MS.A106) : a critical edition, with a study of politico-religious poetry in sixteenth century Spain
The main body of the thesis comprises a critical edition of a recently-discovered anonymous manuscript poem, 'Varies enigmas de los dislates mundanos'. Detailed examination is made of the MS., which appears to be the only one extant, in an attempt to establish historical facts about both manuscript and poem; identification of the author of the work is shown to have proved impossible. The MS. text has required consistent emendation, for the obvious unfamiliarity with the Spanish language of the scribe of Southampton University Library MS. AI06 has corrupted the presumably accurate original.
