FM broadcast tuner performance assessment

FM broadcast tuner performance assessment
FM broadcast tuner performance assessment

This thesis deals with a searching study of monophonic and stereophonic FM broadcast tuner performance. Test procedures are evolved which achieve uniform measurementsend repeatable results. Rigorous, quick end simple assessment of tuner performance, superior to published techniques, is facilitated by use of a distortion measurement system as the central test instrument. A sequence for the realization of monophonic and stereophonic performance tests is proposed which minimizes the activities involved in use of test instrumentation. Precise specifications of filters to be inserted betweenthe tuner under test and the distortion measurement system, to exclude the effect of hum, noise end ultrasonic frequencies from the measurements, are given. A design ofthe filters is presented in detail. An improved time division multiplex stereophonic encoderwas developed and mat the exacting demands of the stereophonic performance investigation. Two algorithms for synthesis of all-pass delay and phaseequalizers are described which have been specially implemented for the design of a linear phase filter as Erequired by the stereophonic encoder.

Abstract

A design ofthe filters is presented in detail. An improved time division multiplex stereophonic encoderwas developed and mat the exacting demands of the stereophonic performance investigation. Two algorithms for synthesis of all-pass delay and phaseequalizers are described which have been specially implemented for the design of a linear phase filter as Erequired by the stereophonic encoder.
