A computer-aided research in comparative literary studies : a concordance survey to the poetry of C.G Rossetti : along with an index of her poems

This thesis describes new aims and methods for research in Comparative Literature, using IBM PCs and applying purpose-built programs. The aim is also to provide scholars analysing Christina Rossetti's works with four volumes (vols: 2-5) of index-linked concordances of her complete published poetry collections. These are based on the first two volumes of Rebecca Crump's edition.

Because production necessarily involved progressive development of computing methods for this first concordance survey of its kind, Volume One also describes my contributions to this - as a program user and research associate - and some of the difficulties encountered during production. The following chapters in this volume are focused on Christian Rossetti's biography and background, listing of the books and correspondence she read, and a study of two of her favourite works by two of her favourite authors.

Since Volume One is meant also as a guide to concordance users, it is completed by a Comparative Literature specimen survey of the Rubiyat of Omar Khayyam, The Nursery Rhymes and the Love Poetry of Christina Rossetti in an experimental chapter which shows the way the concordance can be used for the researcher's benefit.
