Semiconducting films on amalgam electrodes
Semiconducting films on amalgam electrodes
A study has been made of the electrocrystallisation of cadmium hydroxide, cadmium sulphide, mercuric oxide and mercuric sulphide. A critical review of the existing theory of two-dimensional electrocrystallisation is given, and new equations for the galvanostatic case are presented. A combined step and ramp potential sequence has been developed and applied to the study of the electrocrystallisation of cadmium hydroxide and cadmium sulphide. The results of an extensive study of the deposition of cadmium sulphide has shown that the anodic film recrystallises during growth. The application of photocurrent spectroscopy to the study of semi conducting anodic films is described and results are presented for cadmium sulphide, mercuric oxide and mercuric sulphide.
