The implications of origins theory for social archaeology at Section 36, Pincevent
The implications of origins theory for social archaeology at Section 36, Pincevent
This thesis examines the dominance of the idea of the single human origin in Palaeolithic interpretative frameworks. The dominance of this idea has restricted the potential for social interpretations of Palaeolithic archaeology. I have undermined the position of origins theory primarily through the writings of Jacques Derrida, with particular reference to logocentrism.
My case study is Section 36 at Pincevent, where the detailed spatial information has allowed me to write a social interpretation based on an alternative interpretative framework that emphasises the uniqueness of the site and social interaction as evidenced through refits and the spatial arrangements of material culture.

Abstract
