C328 Remix: 2022, 3d printed PLA, 170x100x100cm
Part of a collaborative project with the Archaeologists Dr Paul Reilly and Prof Andrew Jones. This object is a dramatic upscaling of a chalk artefact from the Grimes Graves a Neolithic Quarry. This sculpture is printed with new strata running through it- a technique that Dawson has been exploring whereby he interrupts the mechanical print process to delineate time. This is part of an ongoing series of 'metalithic' objects which amalgamates prehistoric tooling marks with that of the 3D printer, bringing together practices and traditions in object making that are separated by over six thousand years in time. This work seeks to open up new dialogues about geomateriality.
