This special issue is devoted to articles selected from the manuscripts submitted to the Guest Editors after being presented at the IMA Conference on Computational Aeroacoustics held at the University of Greenwich, London, 9–11 April 2002. There were 21 papers presented at the conference, of which seven were from outside the UK, and included contributions from France, Germany, Korea, Taiwan and the US. There were five invited speakers, two of whom were from continental Europe and one of whom was from the US
