Development of a multi-fidelity design, analysis, and optimization environment for future Transport aircraft
Development of a multi-fidelity design, analysis, and optimization environment for future Transport aircraft
Present work describes the development of a multi-fidelity aircraft design, analysis, and optimization environment for future airplanes being developed under the Cluster of Excellence SE 2 A (Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Aviation). The framework, named ADEMAO (Aircraft Design Engine based on Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimization), is a multi-layer design environment that can support the aircraft design from clean sheet sizing to high-fidelity multidisciplinary design optimization. ADEMAO is specially developed to support the integration of novel airframe and energy network technologies for the design of low (zero) emission aircraft. Especial attention is paid to the design and optimization of electric/hybrid-electric aircraft. In this paper, different layers of ADEMAO and the connection among them, as well as the methods and tools available for each design block, are described. Capabilities of the software are thoroughly described and supported with example design cases of three reference aircraft considered under the research cluster.
