This book is a collection of short essays organized in three sections. The first partconsists of six chapters that observe different American topics, and the way theyhave been treated in the public domain. Most of them have had socialrepercussions, not just in terms of the debate they have given rise to – such as the1992 presidential candidate Ross Perot, whose public discourse seemed todemonstrate some insensitivity towards certain topics related to diversity – butalso through the author’s interest in demonstrating publicly how groupsorganize themselves, the ways they solve problems, and whether they effectivelyfollow the principles they claim to, such as in the Woodstock Food Co-op case, acommunity he studied between 1978 and 1982.
