The Maritime Archaeology of Alum Bay: Two Shipwrecks on the North-West Coast of the Isle of Wight, England (The Maritime Archaeology Trust, British Archaeological Reports, British Series, BAR Series 608, Monograph Series No. 2)
This book will be of special importance for people interested in the maritime archaeology of the Solent, specifically researchers focused on naval architecture from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. An additional objective of the authors is to emphasize the importance of public outreach for the protection of maritime heritage and as such, they present several management strategies and education methods at all levels, as well as public access to the sites by established dive trails. The aim is to increase public awareness of the archaeological potential of Alum Bay, on the Isle of Wight. This monograph gathers the work of many authors, carried out over more than 20 years. The Maritime Archaeology Trust (MAT), formerly known as the Hampshire Wight and Trust for Maritime Archaeology (HWTMA), has led this research. The long-term project started in 1991, in the same year as the MAT was founded; as such it reflects its evolution, concerns, ethics, objectives and practices, as well as the shifting landscape of the discipline more broadly
