ORCID ID: 0000-0002-7406-9858 This dataset supports the thesis entitled 'Response of fish to electric fileds: implications for guidance systems' AWARDED BY: Univeristy of Southampton DATE OF AWARD: 2022 DESCRIPTION OF THE DATA This dataset contains: 1. Chp 4: Tab 1 "Experiment 1- Static Water". Contains the data recorded during the static water tests. Sheet includes infomation on eelID, waveform, threshold field strengths for twitch [threstwitch], loss of orientation [thresloss] and tetany [threstet], eel length and weight, water temperature (start, end and holding tank). Tab 2 "Experiment 2- Flowing Water". Contains the data recorded during flowing water tests. Sheet includes infomation on day, date eelID, eel length and weight, treatment conditions (flow and field strength), start and end trial time, behaviours(rejection, acceleration, change in orientation [CiO], no change [NC]), flume water temperature (holding tank, begin and end), water conductivity (upstream, downstream, within the electrode array and average). Tab 3 "Experiment 2- Tracking". Contains the variables obtained through tracking analysis. Specifically: distance travelled, time, ground speed and swimming speed both for treatment and control area. Tab 4 "Experiment 2- Velocity + Depth". Contains the water velocity and depth measured during the trials with respect to low and high water velocity treamtents (FlowTreat: L/H) downstream, within the electrode array (velocity only) and upstream. 2. Chp 5: Tab 1 "Passage". Contains the data relating to route passage during trials. Sheet includes infomation on EelID, HEFStrength (0, 0.53, 0.77, 1.22, 2.17 and 3.74 V/cm), Frequency (0, 2, 10 Hz), Pass(L: LEF Route or H: HEF Route) Tab 2 "Distance". Contains the data relating to distance of initial response during the trials. Sheet includes infomation on EelID, Route (L/H), High Electric Field (HEF) Strength (V/cm), Frequency (Hz), Distance of Initial Response (cm) Tab 3 "Avoidance". Contains the data relating to avoidance behaviour during the trials. Sheet includes infomation on EelID, Day, Route (L/H), High Electric Field (HEF) Strength (V/cm), Frequency (Hz), Behaviours: Any, Acceleration, Switching, Retraction, Rejection and No Change. Tab 4 "EnviroVariables". Contains the data relating to the environmental variables measured during the trials. Sheet includes infomation on Sump Temperature (°C), Upstream, Array and Downstream Water Depth (cm) and Velocity (m/s), eel mass (g) and length (cm), flume temperature(°C) and water conductivity (μS). Tab 5 "Electric Field". Contains the data relating to the electric field measured. Sheet includes the five treatment pulser outputs (V) with the electric field strength (V/cm) measured at the x and y coordinates in both the HEF and LEF. 3. Chp 6: Tab 1 "Yellow Initial". Contains the data relating to intial avoidance and passage during yellow eel trials (experiment 1). Sheet includes infomation on EelID, Day, Field Strength (0, 0.28, 0.37, 0.66 V/cm), Channel (E-EC or N-NEC), Behaviours: (Any, React, Route Change, Reject, No Change), Initial Pass (E- EC or N- NEC Channel), water depth (upstream [US], downstream [DS]), water velocity (upstream [US], downstream [DS]), flume and holding tank temperature, water conductivity, eel weight and length. Tab 2 "Yellow Total". Contains the data relating to total avoidance and passage during yellow eel trials (experiment 1). Sheet includes infomation on EelID, Field Strength (0, 0.28, 0.37, 0.66 V/cm), Approach number, Direction (D-Downstream, U-Upstream), Channel (E-EC or N-NEC), Behaviours: (Any, React, Route Change, Reject, No Change) and Pass. Tab 3 "Yellow EF". Contains the data relating to the electric field measured during yellow eel trials (experiment 1). Sheet includes the three treatment pulser outputs (V) with the electric field strength (V/cm) measured at the x and y coordinates in both the Electrified and Non-Electrified channel. Tab 4 "Silver Initial". Contains the data relating to intial avoidance and passage during silver eel trials (experiment 2). Sheet includes infomation on EelID, Day, Field Strength (0, 0.18, 0.3 V/cm), Frequency (0, 2 , 10 Hz), Channel (E-EC or N-NEC), Behaviours: (Any, React, Route Change, Reject, No Change), Initial Pass (E- EC or N- NEC Channel), water depth (upstream [US], downstream [DS]), water velocity (upstream [US], downstream [DS]), flume and holding tank temperature, water conductivity, eel weight and length. Tab 5 "Silver EF". Contains the data relating to the electric field measured during silver eel trials (experiment 2). Sheet includes the two treatment pulser outputs (V) with the electrif field strength (V/cm) measured at the x and y coordinates in both the Electrified and Non-Electrified channel. 4. Chp 7: Tab 1 "CyprinidWaveform". Contains the data relating to threshold field strengths of responses for cyprinids. Sheet includes infomation on TrialID, Species (C- Common carp, G- grass carp), threshold field strengths for twitch [threstwitch], loss of orientation [thresloss] and tetany [threstet], waveform (1,2,3,4), body length: (total, standard and fork length), weight, water temperature (start, end and holding tank) and water conductivity. Tab 2 "AnguillidWaveform". Contains the data relating to threshold field strengths of responses for adult silver-phase eel. Sheet includes infomation on TrialID, threshold field strengths for twitch [threstwitch], loss of orientation [thresloss] and tetany [threstet], waveform (1,2), eel length and weight, water temperature (start, end and holding tank).
