Snapshots of Spanish-speaking Latin American radio producers in London

Snapshots of Spanish-speaking Latin American radio producers in London
Snapshots of Spanish-speaking Latin American radio producers in London
This chapter discusses the social positioning (Holland & Leander 2004) of three diasporic journalists of Latin American backgrounds who work for a community radio station in central London. These subjects occupy different positions on
the socioeconomic ladder, and within the organisational structure of the media enterprises in which they work. Their stories are shaped by the social and economic conditions that they have had to navigate in diaspora. The stories collected in a long-term ethnography allow us to understand the courses of action they
are willing to take and what working as diasporic journalists represents for these migrants, who want to reconcile their professional past selves with their precarious present situations.
