Preface – Selected papers of the "E-MRS 2017 – Symposium Q"
This volume contains the Proceedings of the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS) Spring Meeting 2017, Symposium Q entitled “Nano-engineered coatings and thin films”, which was held on May 22–26, 2017, in Strasbourg, France. This E-MRS Symposium belongs to a biannual symposium series started in 1993, and was initially mainly dedicated to hard wear-resistant coatings. Considering the huge development of surface engineering in many other strategic fields: energy (production and storage), transportation (structures enlightening), electronics (systems downsizing, electrical properties), health (biocompatibility) among others, it has been decided to open the symposium' scope towards these new trends, considering as a common feature their nanometer-scale microstructure.
