COVID-19 in the United Kingdom: capability development and limitations

COVID-19 in the United Kingdom: capability development and limitations
COVID-19 in the United Kingdom: capability development and limitations
Notwithstanding piecemeal measures since the end of January 2020, the UK government only launched its high-level, strategic Coronavirus action plan in early March, and waited two more weeks to announce a national lock-down. Prioritising the development of capabilities of NHS during this period was effective to some extent. However, inadequate understanding of how various socio-economically disadvantaged populations are being affected and lacklustre measures to address public discontent can pose disturbing ramifications on both the equity and the efficiency of the government's management of the ongoing pandemic, especially as the new and more deadly variant of the virus is spreading rapidly since December 2020.
