A compact 3.25 mW blue laser source is demonstrated using an aperiodic crystal and a pumped diode laser. The diode laser used were 200 mW, 980 nm commercial InGaAs/GaAs single mode ridge waveguide devices. A crystal with an aperiodic grating structure is designed to achieve second harmonic (SH) generation from the diode laser. Initial measurements yielded a pulse duration of 25 ps. The SH was obtained from a grating with a spectral bandwidth of 12 nm.

Abstract

A compact 3.25 mW blue laser source is demonstrated using an aperiodic crystal and a pumped diode laser. The diode laser used were 200 mW, 980 nm commercial InGaAs/GaAs single mode ridge waveguide devices. A crystal with an aperiodic grating structure is designed to achieve second harmonic (SH) generation from the diode laser. Initial measurements yielded a pulse duration of 25 ps. The SH was obtained from a grating with a spectral bandwidth of 12 nm.
