Corporate Governance in the Oil and Gas Sector

Corporate Governance in the Oil and Gas Sector
Corporate Governance in the Oil and Gas Sector
The study explores the key issues related to the governance in the oil and gas industry from the perspective of emerging markets and developing economies. The study provides evidence that the oil and gas industry in different contextual settings have demonstrated good governance and realized that weak or poor governance systems can be avoided with the right structural reforms, knowledge, institutions, regulations and policies. Thus, there is the reason for cautious optimism that more developing countries might have learnt hard lessons from weak governance system in the past. Consequently these countries will pursue strategies and policies that will allow them to fully reap the benefits of good governance practices in the future. The study provides a strong justification for countries with low oil and gas governance index to follow countries with best governance practices and institutional arrangements as their benchmark to achieve a stable governance system.
