This volume (CPJ IV) is the first ofthree volumes of supplements to the Corpus Papyrorum Judaicarum, Volumes:I–III, edited by Victor A. Tcherikover, Alexander Fuks and Menahem Stern,and published between 1957 and 1964(Hebrew University, Cambridge MA). The original collection (styledhere by Hacham and Ilan O.CPJ, the Old CPJ, as distinct from N.CPJ, theNew CPJ) aimed to collect all ‘Jewish papyri’ – that is, ‘papyri relating to Jews and Judaism’ (I, xvii). The N.CPJ aims to do the same, supplementingjournal of jewish studies | vol. lxxiv no. 1 | spring 2023 |the original with newly discoveredmaterial, and with items not included in O.CPJ, either because they were not available to the editors or because they were excluded as a matter ofeditorial policy
