Dataset supporting the University of Southampton Doctoral thesis "Improving cochlear implant listening using vibrotactile stimulation"
This dataset is supporting the University of Southampton Doctoral thesis "Improving cochlear implant listening using vibrotactile stimulation". This dataset contains two Excel files: Experiment_1.xlsx Experiment_2.xlsx Experiment_1.xlsx contains the data presented in Chapter 4. The "All_Data" sheet contains speech reception thresholds (SRT) for each participant, including training and testing sessions, across all conditions. It also includes the condition order. The "Demographics" sheet includes demographic details like age, handedness, gender, and vibrotactile thresholds at the index fingers (right and left) tested at 125 Hz and 31.5 Hz. The "Hearing_Thresholds" sheet includes pure tone audiometry thresholds for right and left ears per participant. Experiment_2.xlsx contains Chapter 5 data. The "All_Data" sheet has SRTs per participant for testing sessions across all conditions. It also shows condition order. The "Tactile_Thresholds" sheet has vibrotactile thresholds at the index fingers (right and left) tested at 125 Hz and 31.5 Hz per participant. The "PTA" sheet has pure tone audiometry thresholds for right and left ears for each participant. The "Demographics and Questionnaire" sheet has demographics like age, handedness, gender, and questionnaire responses on speech benefit with vibration and comfort for each vibration site. Suggested placement responses are also included. The "Gain_values and distance" sheet has vibrotactile thresholds for each body site, measured in dB as shown on the audiometer which was used to control shaker voltage. The experimental protocol was approved by the University of Southampton Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences Ethics Committee (ERGO ID: 61502). All research was performed in accordance with the relevant guidelines and regulations.
