The Montpellier 8 conference, on the eighth fascicle of the famous Montpellier Codex (Bibliothèque Interuniversitaire, Section Médecine, H 196), was held at St Hugh’s College, Oxford on 20–21 March 2014. The event was organized by Dr Catherine Bradley (State University of New York at Stony Brook) and Dr Karen Desmond (University College Cork), with the assistance of Professor Elizabeth Eva Leach (St Hugh’s College, Oxford) and Matthew Thomson (Oxford), and with sponsorship from St Hugh’s College, the Oxford Faculty of Music, the John Fell Oxford University Press Research Fund, the University of Southampton, the Royal Musical Association, the Plainsong and Medieval Music Society and the Society for the Study of Medieval Languages and Literature. Fifteen papers were delivered during the two-day event, to an audience of around 40. Delegates from around the UK, Republic of Ireland, USA, Spain, France, Germany and the Netherlands presented papers on the intricacies of the notation, decoration, presentation, genre and compilation of the eighth fascicle
