Impact of thermal ageing on space charge characteristics in natural ester oil-impregnated paper
HVDC power transformer plays a crucial role in HVDC power transmission system. The dielectric liquid in the HVDC power transformer is vital due to its electrical insulating function and cooling purpose. The mineral oil is still an excellent dielectric liquid for the HVDC power transformer. However, due to high fire risk and low biodegradability, the natural ester oil has been considered the next dielectric liquid. In this paper, the thermal ageing impact showed that a larger amount of by-products were generated in the natural ester oil-impregnated paper than the mineral oil-impregnated paper. Also, the natural ester oil-impregnated captured a larger amount of charges than the mineral oil-impregnated paper under thermal ageing conditions.
