Sibel Erduran and Wonyong Park note the opportunities presented by engaging school students with Big Science, which can be an opportunity to learn both scientific principles as well as the nature of scientific practice itself and in particular the ways in which Big Science projects function. However, they also acknowledge the intellectual hurdles presented to many students by the advanced scientific topics under study by such projects, requiring considered syllabus design, teaching methods, and importantly, evaluation of their efficacy in the classroom.
