We have all this data, now what? Data analysis and interpretation in science museums
Often we are so focused on how to collect data to understand the impact and/or evaluate our exhibitions or activities that we sometimes don’t pay attention to what to do with the data once we have collected it. How do you make sense of survey data? How do you analyze and interpret transcripts of interviews? What can you do with video or audio recordings? What do you do with the outcomes?
In this pre-conference workshop we will look at the step from data to results in more depth. We will focus on the analysis and interpretation steps of evaluation and research and combine theoretical insights about data analysis with hands-on practice of three different types of data analysis: survey data, interview data and observational data. For each of the types of data, speakers will provide some theoretical input and show examples of how to analyze and interpret the data. Then, participants will practice the data analysis techniques for themselves with provided data sets. After practicing, we will discuss the possibilities and challenges of each type of data analysis. In addition, we will discuss how data analysis outcomes can inform practice in a meaningful way.
