The impact of fretting wear on the nonlinear dynamic response of assembled structures
Friction interfaces are a common source of uncertainties and nonlinearities in engineering systems. Stick-slip motion at contact interfaces can greatly impact the system's dynamic response, causing resonance shift and vibration dependent on amplitude. Fretting wear from stick-slip motions also alters micro-interface geometry, but its impact on nonlinear dynamic response is not well understood. This study aims to investigate this impact through a multi-scale analysis that efficiently computes nonlinear modal properties of jointed structures, considering multi-scale friction interface geometries and fretting wear effects over time.
