Negotiating age and ageing: The experiences and response strategies of self-employed older women

Negotiating age and ageing: The experiences and response strategies of self-employed older women
Negotiating age and ageing: The experiences and response strategies of self-employed older women
The article examines the lived experiences of self-employed older women and their response strategies to the age - work related exclusion they face. Through a qualitative and intersectional analysis of older women in the UK, we demonstrate how the multifaceted experience of age and ageing across the life course variously shapes self-employment activity and highlight the material and emotional consequences of self-employment for older women. In this way, our findings extend research on the neglected intersection of gender and age in studies of work and contribute to policy debates regarding support for under-represented people undertaking entrepreneurship.
