Crossnodal, for bass flute and live electronics

Crossnodal, for bass flute and live electronics
Crossnodal, for bass flute and live electronics
Crossnodal is inspired by a piece originally written at the beginning of 2020, whose premiere was cancelled because of the pandemic. It is a revision and extension of the original work—and, in a way, it is also a reinterpretation. The title refers to the notion of crossover. It also alludes to two previous works: Crosstalk, for nine instruments and electronics and written for Schallfeld Ensemble, and Transnodal, for cello and live electronics. The musical material of the 2020 version is developed and combined with elements from both pieces (particularly the flute part of Crosstalk).

In Crossnodal, I tried to explore the sonic world of the bass flute as a physical object, from percussive sounds to rich multiphonics. The live electronics capture the flute's sound in real-time, amplifying and prolonging the natural resonance of the instrument, as well as distorting gestures and extending its sonic capabilities.
