Nucleation and growth mechanism during electrodeposition of HAp-based coatings

Nucleation and growth mechanism during electrodeposition of HAp-based coatings
Nucleation and growth mechanism during electrodeposition of HAp-based coatings
Electrodeposited hydroxyapatite (HAp)-based coatings are the focus of urgent R & D programmes since they are potential materials for a variety of biomedical applications. In this short communication, a model is proposed for nucleation and growth of the HAp crystals during electrodeposition. Depth profiling of the included atmospheric carbon is provided to reveal the distribution of carbon across the thickness of the electrodeposits.

Abstract

Electrodeposited hydroxyapatite (HAp)-based coatings are the focus of urgent R & D programmes since they are potential materials for a variety of biomedical applications. In this short communication, a model is proposed for nucleation and growth of the HAp crystals during electrodeposition. Depth profiling of the included atmospheric carbon is provided to reveal the distribution of carbon across the thickness of the electrodeposits.
