Refugees and the politics of (in) humanitarianism
This chapter explores the contemporary ethics of refugee protection by attending to the humanitarian framing of refugees as subjects of needs and exploring the ways in which tensions within the discourse of humanitarianism can be exploited for inhumanitarian ends. It thus operates on a double register: as a critique of the exploitation of humanitarianism and as a critique of humanitarianism. It concludes by making the case of a politics of dignity in refugee protection.
