Dataset DOI: 10.5258/SOTON/D3549 ReadMe Author: ZHEBING ZHOU, University of Southampton, 0009-0006-3042-5749 Date that the file was created: June, 2025 ------------------- GENERAL INFORMATION ------------------- This research looked at entrepreneurial orientation, network capability and knowledge management practices on firm performance in Small and Medium Enterprises as defined by the Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (2021). Small enterprises, which have fewer than 100 employees and an operating income of less than 100 million yuan; and medium-sized enterprises, which have fewer than 500 employees and an operating income of less than one billion yuan, were surveyed using an online survey. This data is used for PhD thesis of Zhebing Zhou who is the PhD student in Business school, University of Southampton. This data was collected by questionnarie via iSurvey tool. The questions in this survey ask for information in relation to self-assessment of participants company's entrepreneurial orientation, network capabilities, knowledge management, alliance innovation,performance and success and firm performance. The survey was distributed using the i-survey software after being translated into Chinese (for more information on the translation process see p49 of the thesis). The sample selection process encompassed enterprises from several regions in China with differing levels of economic development. For more information on the methodolgy for sampling firms, see chapter 2 of the thesis, pp49-51. This study was approved by the Faculty Research Ethics Committee (FREC) at the University of Southampton (Ethics/ERGO Number: 73224). All survey questions are included. Section 1 (demographic information) is collected via multiple choice responses. Section 2 (company information) uses both multiple choice and a five point Likert scale. Sections 3-7, covering entrepreneurial orientation, network capabilities, knowledge management, alliance innovation,performance and success and firm performance, use a seven-point Likert-type scale, ranging from 1 "strongly disagree" to 7 "strongly agree." 30668042 data: This dataset contains all the data used to generate the figures included in the main text. It contains the results from the survey as completed in iSurvey. The data is an excel document and can be analysed by SPSS and AMOS.
