We were specifically interested in exploring the suggestive possibilities of the data as they related to Neighbouring Data research questions. Practitioners investigated the possibilities of visualising, representing and connecting datasets that comprise short narratives, images, videos and maps, sampled from our research projects. We were interested in how a range of practices interpret and engage with this data at different scales, and what the possibilities for a cross-practice conversation might be. -------------------------- METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION -------------------------- Description of methods used for collection/generation of data: Owen, Joseph, Marsh, Nicky and Ashton, Daniel (2023) Neighbouring Data Resource Pack: Investigating the possibilities of visualising, representing and connecting creative data. (doi:10.5258/SOTON/P1174). Neighbouring Data is an AHRC-funded project at the University of Southampton that examines the critical and conceptual possibilities of a qualitative data observatory. We wanted to know how data observatories can use creative place-based research to inform local authority and community-led decision making. Methods for processing the data: The Neighbourhood Insight Engine 1.0 is a multi-user, hypertextual, offline, browser-based tool for exploring qualitative data that enables users to generate reports. This is a conceptual and practical move from an observatory, which holds or connects data, to a platform that enables users to supply and share qualitative data and which supports discussion, debate and decision-making. It creates a shared and level floor to transparently connect diverse types of data. It provides the flexibility to work with diverse types of data. It creates the framework for conversations and decision-making using citizen-generated qualitative data.
