Interplay between internationalisation and sustainable supply chain management amongst UK SMEs
Interplay between internationalisation and sustainable supply chain management amongst UK SMEs
This study investigates the factors influencing the interplay between international orientation and SSCM practices among UK SMEs. Our findings reveal that highly internationalized SMEs are predominantly driven by external stakeholders, particularly customers, in their SSCM implementation, while SMEs with lower international exposure rely more on leadership values and personal commitment. Interestingly, international orientation does not consistently influence SSCM awareness or practices adoption. Some internationalized firms report that SSCM practices influence their international strategies, particularly in supply chain localization, supplier selection and marketing approaches. This research contributes to understanding the complex relationship between internationalisation and sustainability in SMEs, offering insights for practitioners managing global supply chains and policymakers supporting SME sustainability initiatives.
