(2025) Dataset supporting the research on spectral sensitivity of reef coral behaviour to the disturbance by artificial light at night (ALAN) This dataset supports the publication: AUTHORS: TITLE: Spectral sensitivity of reef coral behaviour to the disturbance by artificial light at night (ALAN) JOURNAL: PAPER DOI IF KNOWN: Links to other publicly accessible locations of the data: n/a Links/relationships to ancillary or related data sets: n/a -------------------- DATA & FILE OVERVIEW -------------------- This dataset contains: 1. LEDs.xlsx file = contains all the data for the tentacle response of corals exposed to different LEDs. Each sheet correspond to a coral species [C. furcata. D. axifuga, L. hemprechii]. In the data set, the score column is the average score of 7 hours per night. This is the processed data for constructing box plots. Treatments = [control; 1.2 ; 3 and 4 μmol quanta m-2s-1], LED = [2000K, 2400K, 6000K], Polyp, Score [from 1 to 4] 2. Wavelengths.xlsx file = contains all the data for the tentacle response of corals exposed to different wavelengths. Each sheet correspond to a coral species [C. furcate. D. axifuga, L. hemprechii]. In the data set, the score column is the average score of 7 hours per night. This is the processed data for constructing box plots. Treatments = [Red, Green, Blue, Baseline], Polyp, Score [from 1 to 4] Relationship between files, if important for context: 1. LEDs.xlsx file is for the data presented in figure 2-3. 2. Wavelengths.xlsx file is for the data presented in figure 1. Additional related data collected that was not included in the current data package: n/a If data was derived from another source, list source: n/a If there are there multiple versions of the dataset, list the file updated, when and why update was made: n/a -------------------------- METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION -------------------------- Description of methods used for collection/generation of data: The tentacle expansion was recorded by taking photographs and assessing a score from 1-4. This scale ranges from “1” (corals with fully closed polyps, contracted oral tissue and no visible tentacles) to “4” (corals exhibiting full polyp and tentacle expansion). Methods for processing the data: We collected data during nights for 11 hours depending on the different experimental conditions (Wavelengths at 4 μmol quanta m-2s-1 and LEDs at different light intensities (1.2, 3 and 4 μmol quanta m-2s-1). The data showing in the files was 7 hours averaged by day. Software- or Instrument-specific information needed to interpret the data, including software and hardware version numbers: All the statistical analysis were performed in R [version 4.5.1, R Core Developmental team] Standards and calibration information, if appropriate: n/a Environmental/experimental conditions: In this study we tested two experimental conditions. Corals exposed to different wavelengths (ref, free, and blue) and LEDs (2000K, 2400K and 6000K) at different light intensities Describe any quality-assurance procedures performed on the data: Tentacle score and data analysis were published before by our group. Tentacle responses were evaluated at least for 5 weeks, when corals were acclimated to the light pollution at night People involved with sample collection, processing, analysis and/or submission: All the authors of the paper -------------------------- DATA-SPECIFIC INFORMATION -------------------------- *******LEDs.xlsx file******** Number of variables: Light intensity (control, 1.2, 3 and 4 μmol quanta m-2s-1); LED (2000K, 2400K, 6000K), Score (Tentacle expansion= 1-4) Number of cases/rows: number of polyps per coral species (C. furcata = 15; D. axifuga = 15; L. hemprechii = 9) Variable list, defining any abbreviations, units of measure, codes or symbols used: Missing data codes: n/a Specialized formats or other abbreviations used: n/a ******* Wavelengths.xlsx file******** Number of variables: Wavelength (RED, GREEN, BLUE, BASELINE); Tank (1,2,3); Score (Tentacle expansion= 1-4) Number of cases/rows: number of polyps per coral species (C. furcata = 15; D. axifuga = 15; L. hemprechii = 9) Variable list, defining any abbreviations, units of measure, codes or symbols used: n/a Missing data codes: n/a Specialized formats or other abbreviations used: n/a
