During this session we will examine the intimate relationship between art and the tourism industry. At a time when “globalisation” is being declared a spent historical episode, it is worth revisiting the expansion of fairs, biennials, and museum franchises in our recent past – what for a time was called “global contemporary art” – through the lens of tourism. This exercise may serve, among other things, to question the decolonial claims of today’s art.
